In October 2025, Astrol Electronic AG, a Swiss subsidiary of Sun.King Technology Group, proudly announced a landmark project: the first application of its solid-state DC circuit breaker in a new generation of railway electric locomotives. Astrol's achievement in the field of solid-state DC protection technology is an important milestone in its more than decade long innovation journey.

Based on the successful experience gained in rigorous fields such as maritime, Astrol solid-state DC circuit breakers will once again demonstrate their unique capabilities - they can autonomously cut off current in microseconds in the event of overload or fault current. This ultra-fast detection and control capability can limit the current before it rises to a dangerous level, thereby protecting personnel and equipment safety.

The solid-state DC circuit breaker for this project will adopt a dedicated version developed for railway application environments based on Astrol's new generation technology solution - Platform B. This collaboration highlights the multifunctionality and scalability of the 'B platform', which has achieved significant improvements in maintainability, compactness, and weight in its design. These features are extremely important in railway application environments.

Over the past year, Astrol has worked closely with customers and successfully integrated its solid-state DC circuit breakers into this new generation of railway electric locomotives.
